Airborne Multispectral Digital Camera and Video Sensors: a Critical Review of System Designs and Applications
نویسنده
چکیده
Airborne multispectral remote sensor development based on low cost solid-state video and digital cameras has proceeded rapidly in the past ten years to a level where such sensors now compete with larger more sophisticated sensors in the commercial mapping and scientific research contract marketplace. For many organizations, development or leasing of such sensors is a cost-effective and advantageous alternative to buying data. The objective of this paper is to review the state-ofthe-art in multispectral video/digital camera sensor design, the benefits and limitations of these designs, the types of applications in which they have been most commonly used, and some potential new applications. The paper demonstrates that low cost custom sensor design is currently viable, that the field of applications is very diverse, both in type and in level of scientific sophistication, and that many of these applications are operational, having been integrated into routine mapping/monitoring programs.

Experiences with the airborne three-line camera system DPA
The digital stereo and multispectral imaging system Digital Photogrammetry Assembly (DPA) was developed for airborne photogrammetric and thematic mapping. Its special feature is the simultaneous image acquisition of high resolution (~0.2m ground pixel size) panchromatic imagery with multispectral data (~0.4m ground pixel extension). This combination delivers for the first time geometric and the...

For most resource management remote sensing applications, overall project costs are of critical importance. Budgets made available to individual researchers seldom permit experiments using an airborne multispectral remote sensing system. The integrated multispectral system described in this paper has a capital cost of approximately $50,000 and can be operated in most light aircraft that have a ...
متن کاملASPIS, A Flexible Multispectral System for Airborne Remote Sensing Environmental Applications
Airborne multispectral and hyperspectral remote sensing is a powerful tool for environmental monitoring applications. In this paper we describe a new system (ASPIS) composed by a 4-CCD spectral sensor, a thermal IR camera and a laser altimeter that is mounted on a flexible Sky-Arrow airplane. A test application of the multispectral sensor to estimate durum wheat quality is also presented.
متن کاملSmall Format Digital Sensors for Aerial Imaging Applications
Small format aerial imaging sensors are important data acquisition tools, but their positive attributes are too often overlooked. Nowadays, as the number of users of spatial data are dramatically increasing, the use of small format sensors is becoming more common. It is therefore important to rigorously assess small format sensors to ensure they are providing quality spatial data. Mostly small ...
متن کاملUrban Remote Sensing: New Developments and Trends
Due to the high spatial resolution requirements for urban information systems, aerial photography has been used as standard imaging input. The advent of new satellites with a resolution of better than 1m (e.g., IKONOS, Quickbird) and digital airborne scanners with excellent geometric fidelity and high spatial resolutions in the cm range (e.g., HRSC, ADS, DMC), however, challenges the analog air...
